Commercial sprinkler systems are designed into buildings to protect the requirements of that particular building and are not always water-based.  More complicated of course than residential but just as important.

Typical and usual applications would be office blocks, retail zones & malls as well as industrial properties.  The key focus in the design phase is to build in evacuation integrity and minimise physical damage.  The regulations covering commercial sprinkler design and installation fall under BS12845:2015
